Atomic Race Spec Steel Oil Pump

Hand Finished & Ported | Nitrided Billet Internals

Why Upgrade to a Steel Housing?

Factory alloy oil pumps have a fatal flaw: thermal expansion. As your engine gets hot, the alloy housing expands faster than the steel gears inside, increasing internal clearances and causing oil pressure to drop—exactly when you need it most. Additionally, under high RPM harmonics, alloy housings can flex, leading to cavitation and inconsistent flow.

💡 DID YOU KNOW?

We hand-port and test run every single pump. Manufacturing a steel pump is just the start. Our technicians manually port and smooth the oil galleries on every unit to remove casting flash and optimize flow dynamics. This attention to detail ensures maximum volumetric efficiency and reduces cavitation at high RPM.

The Atomic Solution

The Atomic Stainless Steel Oil Pump is the ultimate oiling solution for high-performance Barras. The rigid steel housing maintains consistent gear-to-housing clearance regardless of temperature, ensuring rock-solid oil pressure from cold start to the finish line. Each pump is expertly assembled and tested in-house using our race-proven Gas Nitrided Billet Gears and backing plate.

2. Expert Assembly & Testing

We don't rely on mass production lines. Every Atomic Steel Pump is hand-assembled by our engine builders.

  • Nitrided Internals: Fitted with our signature Gas Nitrided Billet 4340 gears and Chromoly backing plate for unmatched wear resistance.
  • Precision Clearance: We individually check and set the internal clearances to ensure the pump operates at peak efficiency.
  • Bench Tested: Every unit is manually inspected and primed to guarantee it performs out of the box.

Choose Your Pressure

Medium Pressure

Application: Standard VCT Engines

Designed for engines retaining the factory Variable Cam Timing (VCT) system. Provides increased pressure over stock for bearing protection without overpowering the VCT phasers.

  • Optimized for VCT operation
  • Excellent street/strip balance

High Pressure

Application: Non-VCT or High-Stress VCT

The choice for race engines with VCT delete kits, or extreme-duty VCT setups (e.g., Time Attack) where maximum oil pressure is required to combat high G-forces and heat.

  • Maximum Bearing Protection
  • Ideal for VCT Delete / Race Builds

Tech Specs

Housing Material: Stainless Steel
Internals: Gas Nitrided Billet 4340 Gears & CRMO Plate
Application: Ford Barra DOHC 4.0L (BA-FGX)
Assembly: Hand Ported, Assembled & Tested in Australia

⚠️ Critical Install Notes

  • Prime Before Start: Even though we test them, you MUST ensure the engine is building oil pressure whilst cranking before you start the engine. We are not responsible for damage caused to an engine start without oil pressure.
  • Cleanliness: Ensure the mounting surface on the block is perfectly clean. A steel pump housing is rigid and will not conform to debris like an alloy one might. Dirt and debris will jam the pressure regulation valve in the pump leading to loss of oil pressure.
  • O-Ring Check: Always use a new pickup tube O-ring (included or sourced separately) to prevent cavitation on the suction side.
  • REMOVE RED PLUGS: We cannot stress this enough. Remove red plastic sealing plugs before installation. Yes it happens more often than you'd think.
