Why Dowel Your Crank?

Tired of loose flexplates and sheared crank bolts? In high-torque Barra builds, the factory friction washer and bolts often aren't enough to hold the flexplate stationary against the crank flange. The long stroke of the Barra makes big power but also shakes the flex plate at a very high frequency trying to break it loose. Installing dowels helps the flexplate and bolts resist this shaking caused by the engine harmonics and other powertrain dynamics.

We use a Hardened Steel Jig with a Super-Hardened Pilot Sleeve to guide our Titanium-coated bits through the tough Barra crank steel.
